It could be possible, if your in a group or have sufficient money to contract a tour guide in Banos to take you to Otavalo, but it will be a fairly expensive endeavor to try to organize that at the last minute. By regular public bus, it will take you three trips: Banos -> Ambato (1 hour approx... may vary) Ambato -> Quito (3 hours) Quito -> Otavalo (2.5 hours) If you cant find a direct bus in Ambato because they are already full, this could turn into two trips Ambato -> Latacunga, Latacunga -> Quito. If you have time for side trip along they way, stop in Latacunga and find your way to Quilotoa, a large crater lake and home to the highest village in Ecuador. You wont regret that trip.
